Frequently Asked Questions about the Ohio Ebook Project and OverDrive.
This system will not work with the Amazon Kindle.
There are no interlibrary loans for ebooks.
You can use our wireless connection to download to your personal devices, but you may not download ebooks onto our library internet computers.
All the rules and policies have been set by the state library. We cannot change them.
Girard, Hubbard and Niles McKinley have all
joined the Ohio Ebook Project. At this time, Bristol, Kinsman, and Newton
Falls have not, so their library cardholders will not have access to this
service.
What will be in the collection? The collection will be downloadable audiobooks, music, video and Ebooks.
What titles will be available? This is entirely up to the member libraries of the Ohio Ebook Project. All libraries will be allowed to choose the materials they would like to add to the collection.
How many copies will there be of each title? Most titles in the collection are permitted to be used by one patron at a time (one copy-one user). The number of one copy-one user materials depends on the number of copies purchased by the member libraries. Some titles can have an unlimited number of users.
How long will wait lists for titles be? This depends on the number of copies purchased, and the popularity of titles.
Can all libraries in the state use the Ohio Ebook Project materials or just the participating libraries? Only the participating libraries may use the materials.
What is "My Digital Cart"? When you find an available title that you want to check out, click 'Add to cart' to put the title in your digital cart. When the title is in your digital cart, it remains available for you to check out. Titles added to your Digital Cart are removed after 30 minutes.
How many titles can I have in my Digital Cart at the same time? You can have up to 10 items in your Digital Cart at the same time. You can remove a title from your Digital Cart by clicking its 'remove' link.
How many titles can I have checked out at the same time? You can have up to 10 titles checked out at any given time.
How many days do I get to keep titles I check out? Lending periods are either 14 days or 7 days.
Can I return items early? Due to publisher licensing agreements, OverDrive (audio) formats cannot be returned early. They are automatically returned at the end of the lending period. Adobe Ebooks may be returned early using Adobe Digital Editions.
Can I renew items I have checked out? Titles cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again if they are available when the checkout period ends.
What happens when I place a title on hold? A title you place on hold will be reserved for you to check out once it becomes available. When the title is available for you, Ohio Ebook Project will send an automated email to you with instructions on checking the item out. The item will be held for you for 3 days.
How many items can I place on hold at the same time? You can place up to 10 titles on hold at a time.
